First Australasian OpenSim Workshop
Join us for the First Australasian OpenSim Workshop, a hands-on event designed for researchers, clinicians, students, and professionals interested in using computational methods to better understand human movement.
Overview
This workshop will introduce participants to practical workflows for using OpenSim and related computational modelling tools to investigate movement in healthy and pathological populations.
The workshop will bring together experts and emerging researchers working at the intersection of biomechanics, personalised medicine, rehabilitation, orthopaedics, clinical movement analysis, sports science, and computational modelling. Through lectures, demonstrations, and practical sessions, participants will explore how musculoskeletal simulations can be used to study movement, estimate muscle and joint function, support clinical and sporting research, and contribute to applications in the healthcare and sporting domains.
The event aims to:
- Build practical skills in OpenSim and musculoskeletal modelling
- Support early-career researchers, clinicians, and sports scientists entering the field
- Promote collaboration across Australia, New Zealand, and the wider region
- Showcase current applications of computational biomechanics in research, healthcare and sporting settings
- Strengthen the Australasian OpenSim and musculoskeletal modelling community
Who is this workshop for
The First Australasian OpenSim Workshop is intended for participants interested in applying computational modelling to understand, analyse, or improve human movement.
The workshop is particularly suited to:
- PhD students and postgraduate researchers
- Early-career researchers and postdoctoral fellows
- Biomechanics and movement science researchers
- Clinicians and clinical researchers
- Physiotherapists, rehabilitation specialists, and allied health professionals
- Orthopaedic and sports medicine researchers
- Biomedical, mechanical, and software engineers
- Data scientists and computational researchers working in health or movement science
Prior knowledge/experience
No advanced OpenSim experience is required, although familiarity with biomechanics, human movement analysis, or programming may be helpful.
The workshop is designed for participants who are:
- New to OpenSim and interested in learning practical workflows
- Early users seeking guidance
- Researchers wanting to apply musculoskeletal modelling to their own work
- Clinicians interested in how modelling can support movement analysis and healthcare research
- Experienced users interested in connecting with the Australasian OpenSim community
Some sessions may include optional advanced content for participants with prior experience in OpenSim, MATLAB, Python, or musculoskeletal modelling.
